Dumfries House residency
I was given the opportunity through the Art Students League and the Prince's Drawing School in London to spend a month in Scotland at Dumfries House. Dumfries House is a 2000 acres estate about an hour south of Glasgow that includes an 18th century mansion with a large collection of Chippendale furniture, artists studios, a farm, a training center in traditional crafts for young people and a variety of gardens. It allowed me to focus on drawing, working from nature, mostly from sheep and trees. My goal was to make abstract compositions based on my observations, but my fascination for my models and my efforts to understand their shape led me to work in a more figurative way than usual.
